Leslie Thornton
Leslie Thornton was born in 1951 in Tennessee. She studied at SUNY Buffalo and at MIT. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, Centre Georges Pompidou, Rotterdam International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, capcMusee and Pacific Film Archives, among many others. She received the Maya Deren Award, the Alpert Award in the Arts, and a Rockefeller Fellowship, and has received grants from the NEA, New York State Council on the Arts, NYFA, Jerome Foundation and Art Matters. She has taught at Brown University and the Academy Sint Lukas in Belgium. Thornton currently lives and works in New York and Rhode Island.
